About Our Organization

Overview

Hub On Wheels (HOW) was founded in 2005 with three goals: create an important civic event, showcase Boston's neighborhoods and parks, and raise money for important causes. The ride was modeled after similar events in New York and Chicago, which attract 30,000 and 18,000 riders annually.

Each year the ride brings together participants, hundreds of volunteers, and numerous local businesses in celebration of Boston and bicycling. With routes looping through Downtown, the Back Bay, Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, Hyde Park, Mattapan, Dorchester, and South Boston, it presents a truly unique way to see our great city.

HOW is a fabulous time and a great cause. The annual event is a fundraiser for Technology Goes Home, an innovative program to ensure Boston students get the technology and the skills they need to succeed in today's world. Last year's event raised $500,000... enough to fund this valuable program for the entire year.

Hub On Wheels is the centerpiece of Mayor Menino's Boston Bikes Program. Boston Bikes is part of Mayor Menino's vision for a vibrant and healthy city that benefits all of its citizens. It seeks to make Boston a world-class bicycling city by creating safe and inviting conditions for all residents and visitors. Boston Bikes focuses on improvements in all five universal bike planning areas: Engineering, Enforcement, Education, Encouragement, and Evaluation.

Engineering...Evaluation.

In 2009, as Boston works to become a world-class bicycling city, it is only fitting that Boston hosts the most spectacular cycling weekend festival on the East Coast. On Saturday, more than two hundred top professional racers, including Olympians and national champions compete for $40,000 in high speed, fast-action racing followed by a free live concert. Spectators can take in the action on Saturday and be part of the fun on Sunday.
